Tange & Nakimushi Peanuts – Neko Sushi

What is Neko-Zushi (Neko-sushi or Sushi Cats) ? We do love the weird and wonderful of Japanese culture. And here it is surprising us again just like a stealth cat launching a sneak attack on our ankles. Tange & Nakimushi Peanuts, the creator of Neko-Zushi aka sushi cats (Neko Sushi) are sure to create another famous internet meme. Our friend sent the hilarious links to us. As we enjoying being the cultural ambassador of cute, we went to the creator’s site first – which is in Japanese – and also some other sources to better understand what Neko-sushi is.

In response to “What is Neko-Zushi?” the creators replied:

“It is a creature very mysterious cat is on the top of the sushi rice and sushi cat.  Research material and witness a lot of information has been left over from the old days, but it has been shrouded in many mysteries still, not intended to show off the figure in the public rarely….

…Neko-Sushi is an extremely unusual life-form consisting of a cat on top of a portion of sushi rice. Although several references have come down to us through history from various researchers and witnesses, their existence is still shrouded in mystery and actual sightings remain rare…..”

Here below is the creator’s Zen poem for us to understand the philosophy behind Neko-sushi:

We know the rule of Sushi – fish on top of rice.
On the other hand we know the rule cats eat fish.
Cats sit on rice, where fish is supposed to be – why?
Contradiction and mystery in this world is always center of the criptic questions among Japanese zen monks.
And this is another Zen question-why Cats sit on rice instead of fish, not eating them -? The great zen question, which proves the magical power of Sushi Cats.

Our lives have literally been transformed by Neko-Zushi (Neko Sushi or Sushi Cats). The whole concept is incredibly surreal and lacking in sense. But who cares! We still love Sushi Cats.  We downloaded the free Neko-Zushi app and our world will be changed forever. The app interface is in Japanese but you can go and enable the English version of the audio (option 1). However, it is still worth navigating through the Japanese menu and it is quite intuitive. There are a few amazing games. Our favourites are the on-off switch and the find Neko-zushis.  The name is what we made up because it’s all in Japanese but if you download the game they are on option 2 and option 3. The 4th option makes even less sense than the rest but it is probably matching plates to information pages about various cats. And the fifth option is the music video.
